2023 Mark Spears Monsters Series 2 #100 The Squad Retro Distressed
The classic monsters assemble in this group shot by Mark Spears, closing out Mark Spears Monsters Series 2 as card #100. Dracula stands front and center in his black cape, pointing ahead with a commanding glare, flanked by a snarling Wolf Man with glowing yellow eyes, a withered Mummy reaching forward, Frankenstein’s Monster in his green jacket, and a scaly Gill-Man lurking on the right. The painting glows against a swirling red, purple, and blue sky, framed by a throwback distressed border in red and black with spiderwebs and the Mark Spears Monsters logo bursting from the corner. The back is printed on vintage-style card stock with the card number, the title “The Squad,” and Dracula’s line, “Igor, summon the team. Tonight we take back what is ours,” above a graveyard silhouette with bats.
Pull Odds: The Retro Distressed parallel was not randomly inserted. The complete 100-card parallel set came only in the Retro Distressed Collectors Box (Frankenstein’s Monster box), and just 100 of those boxes were printed.
Please note: Series 2 was released by Mark Spears via Kickstarter in 2023. The Retro Distressed cards use the same art as the base set, with a design and card stock inspired by vintage cards from the 70s and 80s. Mark Spears is a 5-time Rondo Hatton Horror Award nominee and was named 2020 Rondo Horror Artist of the Year.
